GUYSSSS!!!! What’s up? Felt the urge to BLUGH, so here we go.
To 🫴catch 🫵you ☝️up, here are some things that I have done and learned and experienced since the last BLUGH. As a reminder, I share updates with you so you can keep up with my shenanigans, but also in case there is something you didn’t know about that might spark your interest!!!
Discovered there was ceramic studio called Slow Burn one block from us and so had to check it out. As is my style, leading up to the class I formed a whole life in my head in which taking this class leads to me becoming a ceramicist, creating useful but beautiful pieces, and ultimately the ability to live off the profits of my new trade. Fast forward to class: I am STRUGGLING. I did not take easy to the wheel. It was uncomfortable, awkward, and I didn’t get the hang of it in this one class I took. Though I was deeply offended at not being instantly good at something I was trying for the first time, I have a newfound appreciation for the wheel warriors.
The void you see pictured is my finished product from class. They had lots of beautiful, bright glaze colors to choose from, but you can see that I was feeling some kind of way because I chose the blackest black.
Since we moved to New York, I have been aware of the Story Telling classes offered at the Magnet. I didn’t initially “get” it. Like I didn’t understand why there would be a need for taking classes to tell a story. After attending some storytelling shows though, it became apparent that storytelling, particularly in a group or public setting, is very much a skill that can be honed. The class I took was AMAZING and so useful and I can’t recommend the class enough!!! You can’t tell from this photo but it was such an enjoyable class that I went even when it was POURING outside and my jeans were soaking wet. WORTH IT!
À la theme of public speaking and reconnecting with ✨my inner voice✨, I went to the NYC chapter of Toastmasters. It was ok!!! It was my first and only Toastmasters so far! It was in an old church right off of Times Square and it was hard to hear people. I want to explore some other chapters in NYC - have you Toastmastered in NYC and do you like any particular chapters?
I didn’t have a photo from Toastmasters so I searched my iPhone photos for “toast” and this picture came up. This is actually a good thing because it allows me to alert you of this amazing cookie brand that I don’t see anymore 😭. If you see these cookies somewhere, tell me and I will be there in 5 min.
We were upstate for Labor Day visiting Matt and Lisa and the family across the street from them was having a yard sale. Well, specifically, the 9 year old daughter, Zoe, was having a yard sale. I wasn’t in the market for toys or stuft (correct spelling) animals, but we went over for moral support (she was literally sitting on the curb by her goods and wares screaming, “YARD SALE!!!!”). We were about to walk away when she let us know that she was also offering portraits for $1. I sat for a portrait and this is the amazing result.

For reasons unclear to even me, I have chosen to consume 2 very long books ever at the exact same time. I am reading The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexander Dumas and I am listening to Prairie Fires: The American Dreams of Laura Ingalls Wilder by Caroline Fraser.
LOVING The Count. It’s a lot of plot and characters and so there is a lot to keep track of and if I am away from it for a couple of days, I find I am a bit lost so I am just powering through and rooting for Edmond/Sinbad/The Count/Lord Wilmore/WHOMEVER. I kind of messed myself up by watching one of the approximately 40 (real stat) film adaptations before reading the book. It’s this one and it was SO GOOD but in reading the book, I am seeing they omitted and changed a LOT.
Prairie Fires is a lesson in never complaining about anything in the year 2026. Pioneer life was HARD and greatly romanticized in the Little Home on the Prairie series that Ingalls Wilder wrote. I like taking long, trudging walks through Brooklyn and listening and imagining I am walking from Minnesota to Dakota territory.
