The BLUGH: March 4, 2026
“It ain’t what you don’t know that gets you into trouble. It’s what you know for sure that just ain’t so.”
3rd time featuring Mr. Clemens as the quote provider for the BLUGH. He just always knows exactly what to say!!!
I’m trying something a little different to update my BLUGH readers this week. Let me know what you think.
1. I recently realized recently that I can’t speak with a British accent like I used to. I used to be pretty good at it too, I could even do regional variations. One time when I was 11, me and my sisters were swimming at our apartment complex’s pool and leaning HEAVILY into British accents. We were being loud about it. An Englishwoman was actually present at the pool and approached our mom and asked her where she was from since she assumed we were her countrywomen. Damned if Mommy didn’t say in her natural, American accent that we were just playing and that we weren’t really British. I was humiliated and asked to leave the pool immediately. Though my skill has faded, I am working on it by talking to myself when I am alone or when I think I am alone. It feels very healthy.
2. I was introduced to Jenna of the Powder Room recently and my life will never be the same. She is a makeup artist/educator that leads private makeup education sessions. I recently did a makeup party with some friends where Jenna taught us about products, our shades, and makeup application. It was LIFE CHANGING. It’s crazy how something as common as makeup can still hold so much confusion/weirdness/mystique. Strongly recommend this service to anyone in the NY area looking for a) a great time and b) to enhance and simultaneously simplify your makeup routine! She also just launched her own makeup brushes that are LABELED with what they are for which is revolutionary in the world of makeup tools. Inspirational queen.
3. It is possible that I have BLUGHed about this already but just need to shout out Atlas Coffee Club. They are a subscription based coffee retailer and I have been a subscriber for YEARS. I first got started when my aunt and uncle gifted me 3 months and I haven’t stopped ordering since. The coffee is GREAT and it costs the same as store-bought coffee! And now I don’t run out of coffee which was a big problem for me and has catastrophic consequences for me and those around me.
4. If you have spoken to me in the past month and a half, I have brought up Ragtime on Broadway. I’m sorry but also I am not at all sorry for trying to ensure that you see one of the greatest live performances OF ALL TIME. I have had the absolute honor of seeing it TWO TIMES. Once for Broadway Week (which takes place twice a year in the fall and the winter) and once when Mommy came to visit a couple of weeks ago. I know it is greedy, but I want to see it again. I THINK ABOUT IT A LOT. It’s a revival and was first on Broadway in the 90s. Everyone is amazing in it, but Joshua Henry is so unbelievable. I went into a JH rabbit hole and it is incredible how much he has done! He is prolific!
5. You may have seen that Neil Sedaka died last week. I don’t know much about him personally and I am happy to keep it that way because sometimes I find out things about singers I liked and I am very disappointed (looking at you, Don McClean). Neil’s music was very important to me when I was little, particularly Calendar Girl and Breaking Up is Hard to Do. RIP and thank you for the tunes!!!
6. Bats.
7. In personal news, as of March 1st, Jason and I have officially lived in NYC for 9 years. This pic was taken in Central Park on day 2 or 3 of living here.
8. Not much I can say that this picture alone doesn’t already convey, but this is Seann hugging Frankie and it looks like Frankie is wearing a wig. People need to see this.
9. I am doing ballet again! It is awkward and it is hard but it’s mostly just nice to do this activity that for me used to have a lot of anxiety attached to it and now I can do it and not worry at all about how I look and just do it because I like it and because it is fun. Aging can be fun like that!!!
10. It has been a WINTER in NY. This is a photo taken from our apartment after one of the snowfalls. I love it. It makes me feel very cozy to be inside when it looks like this outside.
